I’m on my way to work. It’s a chilly, but pretty morning here in Nova Scotia.
I’ve decided I’m keeping Humdrum for now...I like this little car too much and, with the recent rust repairs and money therefore I sunk into it, it should be able to kick around another year or two before I sell her on
. Appointment booked on Friday to SLATHER the inside of the rear quarters with undercoating / to get my yearly undercoating done....
Now to book a garage appointment to
fix the clunking I mentioned yesterday, sort out the fuel tank overflowing issue, and fix the
coolant leak that literally popped up today....the joys of having a car that is getting a little on in years and mileage, but I’ll get on top of it! :)

Good morning. So Humdrum lives for now? That's good news!

Well, who knows how long this rust repair will last, but I’m going to drown the inner rear
fender wells with undercoating when it goes in for the yearly undercoating on Friday, even if I have to pay extra...and then we’ll see how long it lasts!
Appointment also on Friday morning to get the clicking I mentioned the other day sorted and sort out a leaking rusty radiator clamp on the lower rad connection that I just noticed yesterday...the joys of older car ownership!

A 12 year old car isn’t really new but I don’t count Humdrum to be old. Then again, cars wear out more from mechanical failures than body rust around here and most cars can reach over 200k miles with just regular maintenance and minor repairs.
Radiator clamps don’t sound that expensive or time consuming . Those and exhaust hangers aren’t the sort of thing I ever think about replacing really though.
Glad Humdrum is still getting the full treatment. Rust prevention is more important at this stage, not less, yet most people think "just drive it until it snaps in half and buy a different car."

Do you have inspections where you live?

Yup, probably not cost effective, but, right now, I can afford to keep her on the road for a bit longer, and the rust is at bay again for the time being. :)

How much rust is allowed? Might be worth it to make it pass next years inspection and then sell a month or so before the next inspection. At some point it’s a diminishing return to keep a car on the road, especially if you keep having these issues.

Oh, the rust would’ve passed as it was, even if I hadn’t gotten it repaired...the rust isn’t unsafe, I think the shop was just looking at it like you were, i.e. ‘You should replace it soon as it’ll cost more next time’ type thing.
